Colour spectrum of SN2014J showing Si II absorption band. As a Type 1a sn this spectrum ought to appear much bluer than it appears here as the exploding star reaches temperatures of 100 billion deg C. Its reddish appearance is due to its blue light being absorbed by the galactic dust of M82.
